Preliminary Task - Camera Skills

"What are the benefits of using a tripod and shooting multi-camera?"

Using a tripod allows the camera man to perform steady shots, especially with panning and tilting. A tripod helps with the framing of a shot, it makes it much easier to position the camera. As well as making filming easier, tripods make filming quicker too. It also makes the shot look more professional as the shot would be well balanced.

Shooting with more than one camera also makes filming quicker, because two or more cameras can be left running in the different positions needed instead of one having to constantly move around to shoot what is scripted. If one shot filmed from one angle looks bad, then another from a different angle could be used without having to redo the whole shot. This can make the scene look more dramatic and effective.

I used what I learnt from this by using two different cameras when filming, this made it much quicker to film for us. I used the tripod to help me make different effects too.

Preliminary Task - Script

Below is the script for our production, 'The Lie', this was draft three of the script, we both worked together to finish the script, and we both had different ideas but Alex had more ideas that we used in this:

Script - The Lie - Draft Three

Preliminary Task - Team Work

I am working with Alex Duthie, I think that we have been working very well together because we make sure everything is done equally. If one of us has any questions about something that we decide one of us is going to do at home, we make sure each other understands and helps out. So far we have been working so well that all we have left to do is post production, we both agree on deadlines that we need to meet so that working together is a lot easier.

Preliminary Task - Our Idea

We have been asked to film a minute long scene of one character having some kind of conversation with another character. It has to show the 180 degree rule and examples of other shots. I am working with Alex Duthie, who is the main cameraman and I am going to be the director, we will both be editing. Our two actors are going to be Josh Dobson who is playing a character called Roger, and Jamie Lee who is playing a character called Steve, both actors are in Sixth form at Sawtry CC.

Our idea is to have two characters, Roger, who will be accusing the other, Steve, of stealing something of theirs, but the audience will not find out what this is as this will create more tension and leave them asking questions about what they have just seen. At the end of the scene the screen will go black and the audience will hear a loud bang which will also leave them asking questions.

The deadlines for the preliminary task are:
Pre-Production - 8th November - 18th November
Production Window - 19th November - 26th November
Post Production - 27th November - 12th December
Presentation Day - 15th December

I hope to work on my camera and editing skills, as we have booked 2 cameras we may have to both do each role. This will help me to improve my skills in all of the roles, although I would most like to work on my editing skills.
